Rhythmic Concepts, Inc., with the generous support of Target Corporation, presents Oakland’s only non-denominational musical tribute honoring Dr. King.  Each year, 1,400 adults, elders, children and families, from extremely diverse backgrounds, come together to share in the inspiration of Dr. King’s teachings, through the joy of music and archival footage.

The 2011 line-up includes some of the most treasured Oakland vocal powerhouses including the soulful and stunning Goapele; powerful singer/vocal historian Linda Tillery premiering a new work supported by the East Bay Community Foundation and presented as an unprecedented vocal duo with the gospel great Terrance Kelly; the powerful 60-voice Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir; and the Oakland Children’s Community Choir under the musical direction of Melanie DeMore, with over 200 children from our Oakland public elementary schools, backed up by Khalil Shaheed’s Oaktown Jazz Workshops. Archival footage of Dr. King’s moving oratories will be interspersed throughout the evening, along with the presentation of the 6th Annual Citizen of Oakland Humanitarian Award. Our emcee for the evening will be Bay Area radio personality Leslie Stoval.
